After School/ Homework Assistance
Our A+A=A philosophy is rooted in our homework assistance program in which we encourage the students to excel to their greatest potential and to approach situations with a positive outlook. Students receive certificates and field trips as rewards for their academic excellence.
Teen Leaders In Training
This program is geared toward our 13 - 20 year old participants as a vehicle to help strengthen the leadership qualities of these young individuals. The Teen Leaders In Training serves as a peer to peer mentoring program, providing the opportunity for the students to assist those younger then them with various homework assignments and projects. Participants also help facilitate activities and events sponsored by the Lillian Smith CYD.
Track & Field
Our members compete in an array of track and field sports as they prepare for the Chicago Area Project games, held in August of each year. To our delight Lillian Smith Center for Youth Development participants are top award winning competitors.
Youth Cooking Classes
Students are able to learn about culinary arts, healthy nutrition and eating habits. Students' knowledge of weights and measures are further enhanced through food preparation, reading recipes, and measuring.
Helping Hands Referral Network
Our Helping Hands program supports families in crisis as they navigate services and our intent is to help families stay in tact through their hardships and obstacles.
Summer Camp
We offer a 6-week fun filled summer activity camp where children and teens have a chance to reacquaint themselves with old friends from the school term in addition to creating new bonds and relationships. The summer camp operates five days a week from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Our youths are involved in cultural field trips, music, arts and crafts and other recreational activities within a safe and monitored environment.
